How to Make Gluten-Free Pizza Crust

A lot of people are on a gluten-free diet but still want to eat some great foods, such as pizza. Well, the good news for those people is that there is a gluten free pizza recipe that they can use to enjoy one of the best foods out there while still following their diet. For more, this article will discuss how to make the crust of a wheat-free pizza in order to get started.

First off, there are a lot of ingredients that people are going to need for this pizza recipe for the crust. 3/4 cup of gluten-free flour mix, made from mixing 3/4 cup tapioca flour, 2 tablespoons of dry buttermilk, one teaspoon of unflavored gelatin powder, one teaspoon salt, two teaspoons of xanthan gum, one package of dry yeast granules, one teaspoon of sugar, two teaspoons of olive oil, 1.5 teaspoons of cider vinegar, 1/2 cup of lukewarm water, and cornmeal to spread on the baking sheet are all of the necessary ingredients that people are going to need in order to make the crust. To add to that, it's a good idea to have some extra tapioca flour sitting around in order to be able to roll the dough on it to keep it from sticking.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

While gathering all of the ingredients needed in this gluten free pizza recipe it's a good idea to preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit so that it's ready to go when the crust is ready to be put into the oven. Now, all of the dry ingredients should be mixed in together to start off with. Then, sugar, vinegar, olive oil and some water should be added and mixed very thoroughly before then sprinkling it with tapioca flour.

How to Make Gluten-Free Pizza Crust

The next step is to shape the dough into a ball and start working it in order to make it a nice, flat surface. Make sure to use tapioca flour on the dough periodically in order to prevent the dough from sticking to the surface it's being rolled on. After the crust has been flattened and is good to go then some corn meal should be sprinkled on top of it. It should then be baked for roughly five minutes. The crust is now done! All that is left to do is to put whatever toppings one wants on the pizza and then cook it at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for about ten minutes!

How To Use A Wood-Fired Pizza Oven

For many pizza aficionados, there's no substitute for a wood-fired pizza oven. However, after purchasing one, you'll need to take the right steps in order to operate it properly. Here are some helpful tips for using the oven as effectively as possible:

1. Learn the basics about the oven's functioning.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

You don't need to learn about every single aspect regarding the functioning of the pizza oven. However, it's important to have a general understanding about how the wood-fired pizza oven functions, and your main objectives when using it. Basically you want to infuse enough heat onto the cooking surface, and in the oven's dome. This will help the oven's heat to be evenly distributed, which will maximize the effectiveness of the pizza's cooking. You've likely seen those dome-shaped barbecue grills that look like something out of a science fiction movie. Well, you want to achieve the same convection cooking when using a wood-fired pizza oven.

How To Use A Wood-Fired Pizza Oven

2. Cure the oven.

Curing doesn't always involve healing! It's important to cure your oven before using it to cook pizza, in order to prepare it properly for cooking your favorite pizza recipe. Here's what to do. Light seven fires, while increasing the temperature and duration each time. Curing your oven is crucial, in order to remove the excess water from the oven. One of the keys to curing your oven is to do it slowly. By curing your oven too quickly, you could negatively affect its ability to cook properly, reduce the lifespan of the oven, and even cause damage to the oven!

3. Prepare the right tools for firing your oven.

Gather the right tools before putting your oven to work by firing it. That should include 1-2 fire-starters (non-toxic and odor-free are preferable); 2-3 pieces of hardwood or seasoned medium; and about eight sticks of dry kindling. Another option is to use a butane torch to ignite your fire. Either method will fire your oven effectively, to prepare it for making your favorite pizza recipe.

4. Push the fire to the oven's side if you use hot coals.

When cooking via your pizza oven, it's crucial to use this step instead of pushing the fire to the oven's back. There are a few crucial reasons for taking this action. One reason is that the oven's cooking will be improved. This is based on the functioning of ovens of the wood-fired variety. By placing the fire in the back of the oven, the cold air will have father to travel before it contacts the heat source. This will make it less likely to create a round convection path.

Also, pushing the fire to the side will allow you to see the pizza's side. When the crust becomes browned, you'll then be prepared to rotate it. The process is much more challenging when the fire is located in the oven's back.

When you're ready to prepare your favorite pizza recipe, these aforementioned tips will help you to use the wood-fired pizza oven as effectively as possible.

How To Use A Wood-Fired Pizza Oven

After using this type of oven, you'll likely never revert to using run-of-the-mill ovens again.

Using Blue Cheese in Pizza Recipes

Blue cheese is not used on pizza anywhere as often as other cheeses, especially mozzarella and parmesan, but it can be a great ingredient if you know how much to use and what to combine it with.

Blue cheese is a goat's milk or cow's milk cheese with a bluish-green or blue mold growing in it. The mold is from mold spores. A lot of modern blue versions are either injected with mold or the mold is mixed in with the curds. This is to ensure an even distribution. Roquefort is injected with mold and Gorgonzola has the mold combined with the curds. A lot of blue type of cheeses still need to be aged in the original caves where they developed their reputations and names, to make them authentic.

You might like to make a pizza sauce recipe with melted blue cheese, and then match the toppings to the flavor of the sauce. A blue cheese sauce, even one which does not contain that much blue cheese, is going to have a sharp, salty flavor, so you will need to match the toppings accordingly.

Mexican Chicken Pizza Recipe - How to Make a Pizza at Home With a Perfect Blend of Ingredients

  • Frozen Bread Dough (White or Wheat) or Store Bought Pizza crust
  • A Little Vegetable Oil
  • Cornmeal

  • Refried Beans, cooked and thinned with water.
  • BBQ Sauce, your favorite flavor from the grocery store.
  • Jack Cheese (or any combo of Jack, Mozzarella, & Cheddar), shredded
  • Chicken, cooked and shredded
  • Red Bell Pepper, chopped
  • Red Onion, chopped
  • Black Olives, sliced
  • Jalapeno Pepper, sliced thin, seeds removed (optional)
  • Cilentro, chopped
  • Salsa

Directions:

Pizza Crust: Defrost one loaf of the frozen bread dough according to directions. It seems to work best defrosting it slowly so it gets large and fluffy before you roll it out using a rolling pin. Put flour on your cutting board so the dough doesn't stick. If it is easier to purchase a premade pizza crust in your grocery store that will also work.

Grease your cookie sheet or two medium pizza pans using any kind of vegetable oil. One of my secrets to a good homemade pizza is putting some cornmeal on the pizza pan after you oil it. The cornmeal kind of acts like little ball bearings, keeping the dough from sticking to the pan, plus it adds a great flavor to any pizza.

Sauce: This will be your refried beans and BBQ sauce. Cook and crush your beans adding some water to make a thinner paste. Spread on the crust so it is a thin layer. Drizzle with your favorite BBQ sauce. A great mix!

Toppings: Spread shredded cheese on pizza to cover. Top with chicken, red bell pepper, red onion, black olives, and jalapeno pepper. Add a little more cheese on top.

Bake: 400° for about 15 minutes. Check it occasionally making sure it doesn't overcook. Cheese will be starting to bubble in center.

After baking, sprinkle the pizza with cilentro and your favorite homemade tomato salsa to add a wonderful fresh flavor.

Some pizzerias will add chopped tomatoes on top for a delectable finishing touch to their pizza, but in this case an authentic mexican salsa will finish your Mexican Chicken Pizza perfectly.

I can be very picky about pizza. I've worked in numerous pizza joints and I'm always searching for how to make the best pizza at home. This search has led me to discover some techniques that you need to beware of to make a perfect pizza. The most important thing that I have learned is that freshness matters. Whether discussing the dough, the toppings, or the pizza sauce, your pizza will always be better if you use fresh ingredients.

Probably the most overlooked item when making a pizza is the dough. The best pizzerias I worked in made their dough from scratch daily, and the worst would use frozen dough to save money. You have to remember that the crust is the foundation of any delicious pizza. A pizza that has a crust that is flavorless is going to taste bad.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

I also highly suggest making your sauce from scratch as well. Yes, you can save time by using a can of pizza sauce, but to me it just isn't worth it. You need to understand that pizza sauce is not the same thing as spaghetti sauce. If you're making it fresh, make sure you taste it as you go so that you find the exact flavor you want. Try adding garlic and some oregano to give it a good flavor. Another secret is to add a bit of sugar to the sauce as this will reduce the bitterness.

How to Make the Best Home Made Pepperoni Pizza - Fresh Pepperoni is Best

So many people think that the cheese is the easiest part of the pizza, but in my opinion they usually get this wrong. You need to use a mixture of a few different types of cheese to find the right balance as well as the right texture. The texture that you're looking for is one that allows a piece of pizza to pull apart and not stick together. My favorite combination is a mixture of mozzarella, provolone, and jack. Once this is on the pizza I like to sprinkle Parmesan cheese lightly on top.

Since we're talking about a pepperoni pizza, let's discuss the pepperoni. The pepperoni that comes in large bags at grocery stores doesn't taste very good to me. I've found the best pepperoni by heading to the deli section and asking them to slice me off around 20 or so slices. It tastes fresher than the pepperoni you buy in bulk. Another mistake people make is putting too much pepperoni on the pizza. Yes, you want to put on more than you would get from your local takeout, but if you use too much your pizza will be undercooked.

Pizza Sauce Recipe - Incredibly Fresh Tasting

What a breakthrough! Let me tell you about it. I put together a recipe for a pizza sauce some time ago based upon various recipes I had researched on the internet. It tasted really decent. It involved cooking down some tomato sauce with some spices and a wee bit of brown sugar added. As I was saying, it tasted really decent. However, I get pizza delivered once in awhile from a local pizzeria that does New York Style Pizza and I am always amazed at how light and fresh the sauce tastes. I began to ponder on this and wondered just what it is that I was missing in my recipe.

Since pizzerias are usually pretty secretive about their recipes I decided not to bother trying to find out what they did to get their pizza to taste so good. Instead I went online and surfed for more sauce recipes. Then I stumbled upon a site by Jeff Varasano, who "reverse-engineered" the pizza of Patsy's Pizza in East Harlem, New York. Reverse engineering is, instead of engineering a product, taking an existing product and breaking it down to find out how it is made so you can replicate it.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

Jeff, the founder and CEO of a software company, loved the product from Patsy's so much that he committed himself to finding out how he could produce a pizza with the same qualities. After six years of research and experimentation, Jeff not only reached his goal, but he has generously shared the details of his work and many tips for putting together an excellent pizza. You can read all about it at: slice.seriouseats.com/jvpizza/

Pizza Sauce Recipe - Incredibly Fresh Tasting

But getting back to the sauce. Jeff said something about pizza sauce that got my attention. He said, "DON'T make a sauce. That is, don't pre-cook the tomatoes. The tomatoes will cook on the pizza. If you cook a sauce first, it will cook again on the pizza, turning it brown and yucky. No need to make a sauce. Look at how overcooked many sauces are. The best places don't do this." Jeff also said something about the canned tomatoes he uses: "Always buy whole, peeled tomatoes and crush them yourself."

I thought long and hard about this and figured that Jeff probably knew what he was talking about! It all seemed to make sense. Now I definitely don't do everything the way Jeff does, but I have implemented his strategy of crushing whole, peeled tomatoes and, without pre-cooking them, applying them directly on the pizza before before putting it in the oven. The results have been phenomenal! I have discovered what my pizza sauce was missing and how to make my sauce taste as fresh and light as the wonderful New York style pizza that I get delivered. Here is my recipe:

Ingredients:

1 14.5 oz. can whole, peeled tomatoes (I like Hunt's®.)

2 cloves garlic

1/2 tsp. dried oregano leaves

1/2 tsp. dried basil leaves

1/4 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. Lawry's® seasoned pepper (or ground black pepper)

1/4 tsp. brown sugar

1/4 tsp. onion powder

1/8 tsp. McCormick® crushed red pepper

Instructions:

Mince the garlic. In a bowl, blend the garlic, the tomatoes and all other ingredients and crush the tomatoes by hand. Or, mince the garlic in a food processor and add the tomatoes and all other ingredients and process until tomatoes are crushed (but not pureed). Spread evenly on pizza dough and add your cheese, pepperoni, etc. This will make enough sauce for two 12" pizzas.

Healthy Pizza Recipes

Healthy pizza recipes are easily available even if you use the traditional ingredients contained in most recipes. But there is much more to consider. In my view pizza is a complete meal and a great source of healthy nutrition for children and adults alike.

There are no nutrition problems when eating pizza but you must follow some simple guidelines. It is no secret that overeating is the real underlying issue not the pizza itself. In fact most pizza recipes contain great sources of all food groups which nutritionists recommend to us for a healthy diet.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

Here are some simple guidelines to follow when choosing your pizza recipe.

Healthy Pizza Recipes

  1. Use fresh ingredients especially herbs and spices.
  2. Prepare your own sauces from fresh ingredients especially vegetables and herbs, like tomato, eggplant, basil and onions.
  3. Use the best quality olive oil where it is called for.
  4. Use cheese sparingly. Don't fall into the trap of using too much cheese as this contributes most to the fat content of your pizza. Be restrained! Let the other ingredients and delicious flavours come through.
  5. Remember to have a balanced approach when constructing your pizza. This means making sure that the cheese doesn't drown out the other ingredients. There is nothing better than tasting the fresh basil, the sumptuous tomato and the delicious eggplant.
There are a few secrets of the trade in making your own pizza; once you know them, it is not hard to make your own and it takes very little time. In fact, after you make it a few times you'll wonder why you made such a big deal out of it.

I have put together a collection of delicious pizza recipes over the years which have given me great joy. I am not overweight mainly because I eat pizza in moderation and use the best combination of delicious fresh and innovative ingredients.

I have learned that you can use seasonal ingredients of almost any kind to create new pizza recipes every year. Would you believe that my kids enjoy fruit pizza for dessert? Well, it's true. I have used pizza recipes to introduce new tastes to my children. When they were reluctant to try Lima beans for example, it was a revelation to me that just putting a few on a pizza was a great way to let them taste something new and learn to enjoy it. Naturally I used some complementary ingredients to enhance the flavour but it sure worked.

A Pizza Lovers Dream - Making Pizza Crust "Crispy"

From time to time the one thing that home pizza makers want to accomplish when baking pizza is a nice crispy, crunchy pizza crust.

It's quite difficult for a pizza lover to resist the crispy texture of flavorful pizza crust layered with a blend of savory toppings.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

A common question asked by newbies and veteran home pizza makers alike, is simply this, "How can I make my pizza crust crispy"? Today is your lucky day because I'm going to give you a couple of ways to achieve crispier pizza crust.

A Pizza Lovers Dream - Making Pizza Crust "Crispy"

One of the most important aspects of making good pizza at home relates to oven temperatures. Oven temperatures vary when using typical home ovens. Though some home pizza makers have access to brick ovens or more elaborate forms of home ovens, many pizza lovers do not. These types of ovens are fantastic for pizza baking but the typical conventional oven found in most home kitchens require a slightly different approach.

Generally, typical conventional ovens do not compare, in terms of temperature generation with commercial ovens found in professional pizza parlors. Don't worry pizza lovers, there's still hope for home pizza makers.

Due to the "temperature factor", there are a number of things you must consider when preparing your pizza dough and baking your pizza pies at home, especially if you want a pie that's delightfully crispy, crunchy and irresistible.

The first consideration is water content when mixing the pizza dough. If you use olive oil as a fundamental ingredient for your pizza dough, consider using slightly less olive oil and replace this with a little more warm water. Adding a little more water to your mix of pizza dough will contribute to a crispier and flaky crust.

In addition, it's a good idea to roll your dough to a "paper thin" thickness. You can do this by "rolling out" your pizza dough directly onto the pizza peel. Of course before doing this, sprinkle cornmeal on the pizza peel to insure an easy transfer to the baking surface you plan to use.

Next, you'll want to use one of two techniques for baking your pizza to make sure your completed pizza boasts that delicious crispy pizza crust that we all crave. You'll want to choose a suitable "baking platform" or "baking surface".

Try one of the two techniques below for baking your pizza pies:

1- Use a "pizza stone"

or

2 - Use a "pizza screen"

If you decide to use a pizza stone, make sure you give the stone plenty of time to heat before transferring the pizza from the pizza peel to the stone. You'll want to follow the instructions provided with the pizza stone very accurately.

The transfer from pizza peel to pizza stone will be much easier if you lightly cover your pizza peel with cornmeal. This makes the transfer process from pizza peel to pizza stone a breeze.

When using a pizza stone, the goal is to have the ingredients of the pizza complete the cooking process about the same time the crust "completely" browns. Depending on your specific oven, temperatures, 425 to 450 should suffice. Of course you'll have to experiment with cooking times for your specific oven.

Be careful not to remove the pizza to early, as this is a common mistake. Allow plenty of time for the crust to brown, without burning the cheese. If need be, CAREFULLY take a peak underneath the pie to check your crust if you like. Remember, ovens are extremely hot!

The second way to achieve a nice crispy crust is to use a pizza screen. Though this can be a bit messy, this baking platform produces wonderful crispy pizza crust. The porous nature of a pizza screen allows heat to pass through the screen directly to the bottom of the pizza.

This helps with the moisture absorption process. Direct heat helps reduce the moisture content within the pizza dough and adds to the crispy nature and texture of pizza crust. Mmmm...I'm getting hungry just thinking about it...

Pizza screens are fairly cheap, and that's great because they get a bit "clogged" with toasted cheese and ingredients after several uses. Clean them thoroughly after each use to extend the life of your screen. Besides, you'll forget about the mess when you slide that first slice of crispy pizza into your mouth, I promise.

Try these techniques to improve your pizza making adventures and remember to save me a slice!

Simple No Bake Chocolate Macaroon Recipe

This recipe was a favorite of my sister and I. We loved it when my mom would make these. When we were old enough to cook, the house always smelled like chocolate macaroons. I think we made this recipe about a couple of times a week. They are very easy to make and super yummy to eat! Another thing I like about this recipe is that you don't use a lot of dishes, so clean-up is a breeze as well. These cookies are great if you are in a pinch and need to make something delicious in a hurry. Another great thing is the ingredient list is very short and most things I'm sure you will be able to find in your very own kitchen.

I hope you enjoy making these macaroons as much as I know you will enjoy eating them.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

What you need to make the macaroons:

Best Fresh Salsa Recipe

Here is the best salsa recipe I have ever made.

My family does not even like regular jar or store bought salsa anymore. I use to make salsa and cook the ingredients on the stove but once was in a hurry and just used everything straight from the garden, after a little washing. The result was a flavor burst in my mouth with all the wonderful flavors that were not toned down by cooking them away.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

Hope you enjoy and give me your comments.

Best Fresh Salsa Recipe

8 tomatoes

3 green peppers

4 jalapeno peppers (you can remove some or add some depending on your taste)

1 small onion

Garlic cloves or minced garlic

salt

Olive Oil

Parsley

Lemon or lime juice

Cut off the tops of the green peppers and remove seeds. Cut off the tops of the jalapenos but do not remove seeds. Cut the outer skin off the onion and cut in four sections.

Place these items in a food processor and run until everything is small. I usually do not leave big chunks of the jalapeno as small chopped bits blend better and give flavor throughout the salsa.

Drop in 1 teaspoon on minced garlic. You can use the stuff out of the jar from the store or put in 2 whole cloves.

Wash the tomatoes and cut off the tops and cut them in half our fourths and put them in the food processor on top of the already chopped up peppers and onions.

Process these until the tomatoes are well chopped. Open the food process and remove the container and put a strainer in your sink and pour the mixture from the processor into the strainer and let strain all the excess liquid from the tomatoes. I usually use my well washed hand in their to stir up the salsa and speed up the process but you can use a big spoon. When Most of the excess liquid is gone dump the strainer mixture into a bowl or container.

Add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon dried parsley, 3 to 4 tablespoons lemon or lime juice. I prefer lime juice but once ran out and used lemon juice and it worked just as well. I use the bottled juice but it you have fresh it would be even better. Add 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil.

Stir everything together with a spoon and quickly get out your chips and get some because as soon as your family knows you have homemade salsa made it will not be around for very long.

Wild Edible Recipe: Sauteed Puffball Mushrooms

Yes! I did it! I love the confident feeling of learning something new.

Until yesterday I was sure of two edible mushrooms. Today I am sure of four. My two new delicacies are the Gem-studded puffball and the Pear-shaped puffball. I have a fifth under study.

\"Pizza Recipe\"

Before I share this recipe, it's time for my disclaimer: ALWAYS test for edibility.

Wild Edible Recipe: Sauteed Puffball Mushrooms

When I gather mushrooms, I put each species in a separate paper bag. When I get home, I take them out of the paper bag and begin my visual study.

The mushroom under study right now is the fawn mushroom. I found one on a hike with "Wildman" Steve Brill last month. I have found it twice since, but did not eat it. I just studied the shape, how the gills were attached and the stem. "Wildman" has made replicas out of Sculpey - which is an excellent way to improve observation skills. It's also fun.

I am cautious enough to consult other mushroom identification guides, but "Wildman" has the best photos and his sculptures are accurate. I am now making a spore print and when I do sample this mushroom, it will be a piece the size of a green pea.

THE RECIPE:

Sautéed Gem-studded (Lycoperdon perlatum) or Pear-shaped (Lycoperdon pyriforme) mushrooms:

1. Remove mushrooms from paper bag, trim dirt and wipe with a cloth or paper towel

2. Do not wash or immerse in water. Do not salt. That makes the mushrooms tough

3. Cut the larger mushrooms into bite-size pieces

4. Coat with olive oil and one-half teaspoon of lemon or lime juice

5. Set pan over low heat, then add coated puffball mushrooms

6. Cook until tender

Puffballs are fragrant when picked and they do have a distinct flavor, but it is delicate. I enjoyed it as a simple side dish.
